Come meet one of the most industrious creatures of the American Southwest--a small mammal from the rodent order of animals--the packrat in A Packrat's Holiday: Thistletoe's Gift, illustrated by Nancy Batra.

Can two little packrats find food at the cowboy campout in time for the holiday feast? Fun language and cowboy slang make for a great read aloud.

Abi sees her first ghost!

The stars in the sky–listeners of dreams, grantors of wishes are the only stars in eleven-year-old Abi’s life. . . until she meets a black and white Border collie also named Star, who helps her solve a mystery. Herbert, the owner of the country inn where Abi is staying, dies of a heart attack. His wife, Dee, is left to run things and the inn soon falls in disrepair. Herbert’s greedy brother, Norman, tells Sheriff Smart that Dee is to blame for his brother’s death and should be put in jail. He has arranged for a wrecking crew to demolish the inn to make way for a shopping center he wants to build. With only forty-eight hours left, Herbert’s ghost appears to Abi and asks for her help. Abi and her new friend, Jess, search high and low for answers. Can Abi prove Dee’s innocence and save the inn in time?

Praise for Secret in the Stars

“This book was hard to put down. There are secret rooms and hidden doors, a villain and a wannabe villain. The author does a terrific job with her descriptions, whether people, places, or things! I look forward to reading the next book in this series! It was sheer entertainment.”

The biggest day of the year had arrived: the 4-H Horse Show. Ashley bowed to the locker room mirror. "Today Lacy and I are going to win!" If Ashley could prove to her mom that she was serious about riding, she wouldn't have to wear her old red, rubber boots anymore. She could wear real riding boots. But sometimes her pony, Lacy, had a mind of her own. Did Lacy want to win, too?

The illustrations are such a beautiful compliment to the well-written and darling story! Thanks again for promoting the 4-H program and for writing a story which will be enjoyed by youth and their families (enrolled 4-H members and those yet to enroll)!

Secret in the Mist_B-final front cover.j

In 1875 . . .

Faith! Come quick, I must see you! Before it’s too late!

I called and called but no one could hear me. Ma and Pa will be so sad. But they must understand. I'm just a young girl who loves her horse. Now fate has dealt me a final blow, and Faith will no longer be by my side.

Today . . .

Late at night when the moon is full and the temperature is just right, the ghost of a young girl rises out of mist that forms over the marsh. No one knows who she is or why she appears, but for years it has been rumored that she roams around the old deserted farmhouse and beyond, searching . . . searching. Abi’s ability to see into others’ souls, even those of the departed, can’t fail her now. Who is this ghost? Where is she bound? Abi has a week to find out.
